Cosmos perform best when planted directly in average, medium-dry, well-drained soil after the final spring frost. Lightly press groups of 4-6 seeds into the soil 12-24 inches apart. Water sprouts lightly. Once established Cosmos can withstand, and even prefer, a bit of heat and drought so do not over water. In 6-8 weeks 24-36 inch tall, shrubby plants will proliferate with bountiful, colorful, daisy-like blooms. Cosmos will self-seed each year unless deadheaded after flowering.

Extend the Season: Deadheading, by trimming the stem back to the first leaf below the flower head, will conserve the plant's energy and help Cosmos bloom longer into the late summer and fall.
