Carrots can tolerate frost, so sow directly outdoors 3-5 weeks before the last spring frost date; or in mid to late summer for a fall harvest. (Transplanting from indoors can cause the carrots to be weak and crooked.) Plant seeds 1/2" deep in loose, sandy soil with a pH level of approximately 5.0-7.0. Try to distribute seeds evenly so seeds don’t grow together. Keep the soil moist with frequent, shallow waterings. To harvest, pull carrots straight up and out of the ground.

For long straight carrots, get all lumps and rocks raked out of the soil prior to planting carrot seeds.

Enjoy more carrots... Plant one carrot crop in the Spring and another in the Summer for a continuous delicious harvest throughout the Fall!

Wit & Wisdom: The Irish called carrots "underground honey," due to its sweetness. Carrots were the first vegetable to be canned commercially. Read The Old Farmer's Almanac Carrot Growing Guide!

Companion Planting: Rosemary & sage deter carrot flies; making them great companion plants for carrots!
